Business…is it international or is it domestic? Business and education have struggled with the answer to this question for years. What we do know is that business deals with the global marketplace every day, and to do so successfully, specialized skills are needed. Unfortunately neither educational institutions nor businesses were recognizing the skills of many global business professionals as significant.
In 2001 NASBITE International decided it was time to recognize these skills, and took on the task of creating a credential that would validate international business knowledge. Using an inductive process spanning four years, which involved international businesses and professionals, university and college professors, as well as representatives from the US Department of Education and the US Department of Commerce–Commercial Service, an exam was created along with the guidelines for becoming a Certified Global Business Professional.
During this process it was decided that NASBITE International would create, maintain, and administer the exam, however training and training material development would be left to colleges, universities, and other service providers.
